Artist spotlight: Charlie Brouwer

From the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwest Virginia, Charlie Brouwer will create a DTour artwork from 100 wooden ladders gifted to him by the owner of a cherry orchard. His "cloud" will be the latest iteration in an ongoing exploration with the ladders (the work above was installed at the Turchin Center in Boone, NC).

Charlie received his BA English from Grand Valley State University, and MA Painting and MFA Sculpture from Western Michigan University. He taught art for over 30 years, including as professor of art at Radford University. Since 1975, his work has been shown in over 300 exhibitions throughout the United States, and in Australia, Hungary, Poland and South Korea. He now works full-time creating indoor and outdoor sculptures, installations, and community based public art projects. Follow him @charliebrouwer. Learn more about Charlie Brouwer
